PED Security and What it Means For Your Business
July 1, 2010 is rapidly approaching and many U.S. businesses are confused on not only these changes mean, but how the PED security requirements are defined in terms of how it affects their unique company structures.
Because there remain many who focus and spend their time in an attempt to steal financial information and then sell it with incredibly high price tag, the collective financial sector has made strides to stop many of these attempts in their 
tracks. These new PED security requirements affect any business that incorporates PIN entry hardware into its suite of credit card processing services. These are the boxes that have keypads, screen displays and are usually situated near a cash register for the convenience of a merchant’s customer. While they’re designed to ensure the safety of data, there have been new developments made in terms of further securing sensitive information. Enter the new PED Security Standards.
The PED security requirements and approval procedures were designed, courtesy of major card companies, including Visa, MasterCard Worldwide and JCB International. These new requirements mean merchants who incorporate credit card processing services via these PEDs (PIN entry devices) into their business models must meet the new mandates.
