The FDIS Commitment to the Environment

With more and more companies around the world that are going paperless in many ways, FDIS is an industry leader in eliminating many of the problems that paper checks present.  The Unites States government and its many agencies print and distribute hundreds of thousands of paper checks on a weekly basis.  Even as other companies throughout the country are eliminating paper checks, our government faces many obstacles in its efforts.  Still, it’s a costly venture that is eventually passed on to the taxpayers.  From social security checks to tax refunds to grant checks for students, these paper checks are the Achilles heel for Americans.  Not only are there costs associated with printing and mailing them, but the environmental repercussions are significant, as well.  According to Mercator Advisor Group, a research firm, it estimates that the U.S. Government spends ninety-eight cents for every paper check it cuts and distributes, not to mention the environmental costs.  Further, fraud is more likely to occur with paper checks than with those methods that incorporate the latest technology for dispersing funds.

This is where FDIC comes in.  We are currently working with various agencies in an effort to streamline its efforts for going green and make electronic disbursements an easier and more feasible option.  One of those ways includes the use of reloadable open and closed loop payment cards.  The advantages are many, including the fact they far more efficient.  Since they’re reloadable, there is no need to replace them each week or month for the millions of Americans who receive government benefits.  This eliminates the fuel associated with transporting all of the paper checks, it eliminates the tons of paper used to print traditional checks and it streamlines the process as a whole, which makes our government far more effective in its efforts.

We’ll be explaining more about FDIS and its efforts to work with and streamline the processes of our many government agencies in future postings.  Keep checking back.  It’s a commitment we’ve made and one we’re very proud of.  And in the meantime, we remain committed to our customers to in their efforts of streamlining their credit card processing services.
